Women continue to be vulnerable victims of violence in a society plagued by machismo and patriarchal attitudes towards women.
Violence against women is not only limited to the physical. Sexual, psychological, and state violence continue to be perpetrated against women. This situation is only reflective of the widespread thinking that women are mere objects that can be abused by men and society in general. This reveals the existing unequal power relation between men and women and the injustice in the prevailing socio-economic structures in many countries such as the U.S. and the Philippines.
