Violence against women is pervasive throughout the world...from the streets of San Francisco, USA to the mountain villages of the Philippines. News reports from around the world are filled with stories of how women fall victims to violence in homes, in schools, in work places, and in militarized areas.  Women continue to be vulnerable victims of violence in a society plagued by machismo and patriarchal attitudes towards women.

Violence against women is not only limited to the physical. Sexual, psychological, and state violence continue to be perpetrated against women. This situation is only reflective of the widespread thinking that women are mere objects that can be abused by men and society in general. This reveals the existing unequal power relation between men and women and the injustice in the prevailing socio-economic structures in many countries such as the U.S. and the Philippines.

The patriarchal culture that views and treats women as objects and properties of men must be transformed into one that looks and treats women as equal partners. babae seeks to promote positive values towards women, uphold the dignity and human rights of every person in society, and recognize the important contributions of women and men in building a just and progressive society.
